Q: How was MVDA formed? Who formed it and why?

Mount Valley Development Association (MVDA) was inspired by Sarvodaya Andolan. Poor economic condition and slow pace of development exasperated the youths of Bhilangana Valley of Tehri Garhwal District, which ultimately led to the formation of MVDA. The association adopted right based approach to aware local people and organized several rallies and campaign against the flawed planning of the state government along with uprooting various social evils like consumption of liquor and violence against women. Finally the organization formally came in the picture in 1995 under the leadership of Avtar Singh Negi. It is registered under Society Registration Act 1860, Registration No. 184 and Foreign Contribution Regulation Act. 1960, FCRA No.34796005.

Q: Are you a registered body?

Yes, MVDA is registered under Societies Act, 1860, and Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), 1976. It is also registered for exemption under section 80 G, 12 A.

Q: Where all do you have your formal offices?

MVDA has its head office located at Village Doni in Ghansali, and field office in Tehri Garhwal, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag Haridwar and plain areas of Saharanpur & Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh

About Internship/Volunteering:

Q: How can I Intern/ volunteer with MVDA?

Anyone regardless of age, gender, education, nationality can intern / Volunteer with MVDA. For details visit our website.For a list of internship / volunteering opportunity or call up the MVDA office (08392955511,) to find out what suits your circumstances.

Q: Will I get a certificate, if I Intern / volunteer with MVDA?

On request we will surely issue a certificate for the work and duration of time that a person intern/volunteer with MVDA on the tasks assigned by MVDA. On the other hand we strongly discourage people from approaching us with requests from their friends, relatives, children, college kids wanting a certificate when they are not actually interested in working with us as a intern/volunteer.

Q: I want to join you formally, how do I do that?

Send us your details and whenever there is an opening we will get in touch with you but if you are keen on working with us then the best way is to start with doing internship/voluntary work with us. That will give you a firsthand idea about our work, our work culture etc. Send us your detailed CV on contact@mvda.org.in for future reference.

Q: I want to do my internship, how do I proceed?

Please ask your institute to send us a formal letter, mentioning about your interest in doing an internship with MVDA. Also please mention the duration, specific interest area etc details. You can also fill up the internship form, Please follow the link:

Q: What all states and villages you work with? Do you target specific villages?

At present, MVDA is working in difficult mountainous terrain of Tehri Garhwal, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag and Haridwar district of Uttarakhand and plain areas in Saharanpur & Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh.

Q: Can I come with you in the villages where you are working?

You are most welcome to travel with our respective team members when they go on field visits but:

  • You will have to work according to their field schedule.
  • The facilities and the living conditions at the villages are the most basic, so be prepared for some rough living.

Let us know about your free dates and if there is someone travelling at that time, we will let you know.

Q: Who are the other major donors that are partnering MVDA?

MVDA have had a strong base of funding organisations. Some of the major affiliates and partners of MVDA are; American India Foundation (AIF) Tata Trust, Oxfam India, Action aid India, IIMPACT, ITC , Bioversity International, Himmotthan and many other.

Q: Will MVDA give me a certificate for Income Tax exemption?

Yes, MVDA is registered under section 80G of the Income Tax Act. Our stamped receipt will allow you to claim this exemption.

Q: Can I visit the learning centres myself?

Yes, please get in touch with our coordinators at the office in Doni , and they will arrange a visit. You can then see for yourself the learning centres that run under the aegis of MVDA.
