MVDA undertook interventions targeting improvement of natural resources and promoting livelihood improvement. The programme has been implemented with the communities on demand driven basis in order to reduce stress/drudgery and improve quality of life (especially for women), and involve & build capacity of panchayats and CBOs in the development process. The implementing strategy includes meetings and planning with the communities, organizing training and awareness programmes and formation and capacity building of community based organizations. The programme has led to increased level of health awareness among women and significantly improved the rate of child immunization. Availability of fodder grass also helped in reducing women’s drudgery considerably. Safe drinking water is now available to families at their doorstep which is also saving time. Introduction and use of toilets has improved the sanitation conditions of the villages. MVDA with the financial assistance & guidance of Sir Ratan Tata Trust, Mumbai, carried out natural resource management based interventions in Sem Gadhera Micro Watershed of 465 hectares covering a total population of 2864 persons. Under this programme activities for renovation of natural resource base were undertaken in a participatory and phased manner along with institutional arrangements and capacity building of the communities. Women are especially motivated to take part in the planning and execution of the entire programme activities. Strengthening the natural resource base including development of water sources, farmlands, common lands, forest lands and livestock, especially through watershed development programmes.
