Case Studies

Empowered through information:

This special case refers to Vijaymani, a resident of Mundeti village. She is 34 years old housewife. Se has a very big family size where there are total eight members including herself.

Although she was literate but despite being literate she hadn't any kind of information regarding government's social schemes and plans. MVDA's vision is to strengthen hilly women in terms of their rights and awareness.

To achieve organization's vision MVDA formed a self help group at Mundeti village, in which vijaymani was also nominated one of the group's member. Gradually she started to understand and learn about government social schemes and planes.

On 2003 she participated in a sector level meeting of women group which was popularly known as the name of Mahila Manch those days. This was the meeting in which she raised the issue of women health of that particular area after which some women were selected for Arogya Sakhi, Vijaymani was also one of them. Besides she also took participation on seven days training on health related issues.

It was not everything, moreover she attended many more exposures, workshops related to capacity building in which lots of issues were discussed such as right base and government's plans and social securities etc. Now she suggests and informs women groups regarding health and their rights.

Now that Vijaymani has taken plenty of trainings on different- different issues, due to which she has emerged one of the most confident and self reliant women of that area. Some of her splendid works are these.

    • She not only struggled against women violence, partiality in MANREGA, irregular distribution of PDS and genuine demands and rights of women but also succeeded and overwhelmed by others.

    • She also actively participated in fruits preservation process which was organized by Bhilangna Sakhi Sangathan, besides she transformed one of our rural mart in intense business mode.

    • As per the requirement of her area she runs retail shop at her own village as well as sells some hand woven clothes which are knitted by herself.

  • Vijaymani's per day average sell from that shop is almost 90 to 120 and net profit 3000 rupees per month.

Eventually Vijaymani expresses her heartiest thanks to both MVDA and Action Aid India. Further she says that they started such a magnificent development related work due to which we encouraged and a total transformation happened in our life. She is very grateful and extends her thanks to both of organization on the behalf of Bhilangna Sakhi Sang than and wish that this kind of valuable support will be continue in future also.
