Promoting Women Livelihood in Disaster Affected Hill Region of Uttarakhand

Brief Description about the Project

In the year 2014 MVDA & American India Foundation (AIF) collaborated, to work for the people of Uttrakhand who were affected by the devastating floods and landslides in the year 2013.

The purpose of this partnership was to support 600 families, where only women practiced farming and agri based livelihood activities.

11 villages; Chaumari, Chillond, Jallmalla, Kabiltha, Byunkhi, Kunjethi & Kalimath of Ukhimath block, Rudraprayag were included.

To promote and strengthen women Self Help Groups (SHGs) in these villages, formation of a federation was done and registered as a legal entity under the Uttarakhand cooperative Act 2006.

To intervene in income generation activities through agriculture based livelihood model.

To create a cadre of 11 trained village service providers as entrepreneurs, mainly women to strengthen the federation in promoting its business activities.
