Holistic Rural Initiative for Development Action and Yield (HRIDAY)

Mount Valley Development Association has recently partnered with the LIC HFL CSR  to work in the field of holistic rural development. Where organization is aiming to work with 4000 right holders in 5 Gram Pancyat of Bhilangna district, TehriGarhwal, Uttarakhand.

The proposed villages require to have a dual approach including infrastructural development along with the behavioral change. There is a lack of basic infrastructure like toilets. Nearly, 20 percent households practice open defecation as they are financially incapable to construct it causing number health issues. On one hand where the communities need to be aware about the issues like quality education, WaSH, menstruation hygiene management, open defecation, climatic change on the other hand there is a need of infrastructural development as well like fencing walls to protect and promote agriculture, irrigation facilities, fodder development etc. Similarly, the schools of the proposed area have no accessibility to computer education. Also, there is an unavailability of quality education restricting the learning opportunities and basic knowledge of students

Key objectives of the programme:

  • To promote a holistic development of the area in terms of livelihood enhancement, education, community health, infrastructure development, water sanitation and hygiene and Natural Resource Management.
  • To prevent distress migration from rural to urban areas by establishing agriculture as a sustainable livelihood alternative.
  • To enhance income of farmers by 30% through conservation and encouragement of spice, millet, vegetables cultivation.
  • To contribute towards social empowerment by engaging all sections of the community in the task of village development
  • To improve the social status of women by their economic and political development

Central Sector Schemes for Formation and Promotion of Farmer Producer Organization

Mount Valley Development Association has recently partnered with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) under Central Sector Scheme for Formation and Promotion of 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations to work in the field of Formation and Promotion of Farmers Producer Organization. Under this programme 2 Farmers Producer Organization formed in Uttarkashi one is in Bhatwari Block and another one is in Mori Block and working with farmesr on  Apple and Rajma and 1 in Jonpur block of TehriGarhwal on Potato farming.


The key activities under this programme are mentioned bellow:

  • Formation and strengthening of FPOs
  • Capacity building and institutional credit linkage
  • Preparation of Product-specific Business plan for FPOs.

Project Jeevan- Free Oxygen Emergency Support

Mount Valley Development Association has recently partnered with the America India Foundation Trust to work in the field of Covid-19  response by providing free oxygen

Mount Valley Development Association has recently partnered with the America India Foundation Trust to work in the field of Covid-19  response by providing free oxygen emergency support to the COVID patients under home based treatment through volunteer-based, Circulation/re-circulation of Oxygen Concentrators (OC), free of cost to the community in Pauri, Tehri and Haridwar districts of Uttarakhand.

MVDA volunteers coordinated with hospitals, local administrations, and target beneficiaries for free Oxygen support through OCs, and coordinated with hospitals for establishing the need and effective usages of OCs.

With the help of the community based volunteers MVDA helped more than 100 COVID-10 and other patients by providing free OCs services and continuing help the patient need of OCs.

COVID-19 Vaccination Programme

Mount Valley Development Association has recently partnered with the Azim PremjiFoundaton to work in the field of Covid-19 Vaccination drive in Bhilangna block of TehriGarhwal.

Mount Valley Development Association has recently partnered with the Azim PremjiFoundaton to work in the field of Covid-19 Vaccination drive in Bhilangna block of TehriGarhwal. Bhilangana block is one of the largest blocks in district with an area of approx. 1095 Square Kilometers. It is also one of the remotest blocks in the district with a hundred percent rural population. There are 186 Gram panchayats, 260 revenue villages with a total of approx. 111,626 population in the block. The health department runs one CHC, one PHC, four APHCs, seven SADs and 37 ANM sub-centres in the Bhilanagana block.

  • Under this programme organization fulfill three major gaps
  • Identify the non-vaccinated individuals
  • Focus on second dose
  • Timely communication

MVDA with the help of 100 community based Volunteers and Community Health Workers did door do door actual mobilization of the individuals and analyzed the data and shared to concern PHCs for follow up and vaccination to non-vaccinated populations.

EY STEAM APP for Rural Girls

Mount Valley Development Association has recently partnered with the EY Foundation to work in the field of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education with young rural girls. EY-STEM app is being launched in 24 Government Senior and Senior Secondary Schools in Bhilangna Block of Tehri District.

The aim of the EY STEAM App to identify, inspire and empower young rural girls from the ages of 13-18 so that we can create a next generation that has a more equal representation in the field of STEM. 

EY- STEM App is a mobile platform where STEAM content has been gamified to create an ecosystem of learning with fun. After doing the activities, the users can earn rewards which they can redeem for STEAM merchandise, can avail mentor ship from individuals/professionals in the EY network, or give back by contributing the points to a charitable organization. In the 15 different channels in the app, the girls can learn skills of the future like collaboration, systems thinking, design thinking, communications, critical thinking, leadership and much more.

This programme is supported by American India Foundation (AIF) in amalgamation with Mount Valley Development Association (MVDA). With this program we are aiming at empowering the women of Uttarakhand by providing technical & soft skills training in garment production and up-scaling agro based livelihood opportunities to improve their income.

This programme is supported by Himmotthan and Tata Trusts in amalgamation with Mount Valley Development Association (MVDA). With this program we are aiming at upskilling for increased outreach of membership of federations, diversification of federation led businesses, growth in volumes and profitability and an increased access to financial services through SHGs and federations.

Objective

  • To mainstream the conservation and use of agricultural biodiversity for resilience in agriculture
  • To improve livelihoods, access and benefit sharing capacity of farmer communities through sustainable production
  • To use community-based participatory approaches which support the maintenance of existing crop diversity.
  • Proposed approaches will include awareness campaigns, seed fairs, diversity flora, strengthening seed supply systems and the establishment of community gene banks, and other adaptive technologies that enable farmers to adopt and benefit from diversity rich solutions.

Deliverables by MVDA

  • Submission of the Baseline & Nutritional survey.
  • 15 champion farmers on the promotion of the local landraces of Rice, Kidney Beans, Finger Millet, Amaranth and Buckwheat Kharif season namely China 4 (Paddy) Harshil Rajma (Kidney bean) Lal Mandua (Finger Millet) and white Amaranth for promotion.
  • Rabi season, we worked on Baby trials for 26 varieties of Barley.
  • Mother and Baby trial for Rice (31 landraces) and Barnyard (15 landraces) with the guidance and technical support from ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources – Bhowali.
  • Conducted various capacity building trainings and field exposure for farmers.

With this program we aim to enhance the livelihood of women through conservation and rejuvenation of wild and cultivated spices and condiments of the region as well as to mainstream by empowering and encouraging them along with the other communities.

  • Trained 150 women on organic spice cultivation and documentation.
  • Bank linkages of 16 WFGs (Women Farmers Group) and distribution of Roto-weeder and Thresher at subsidized rates from Agriculture Department.
  • In 15 sessions 117 people have attended the gender sensitization and awareness raising workshops.
  • 35 households have claimed for Government Schemes and Entitlements.
