Climate, Environment and Natural Resource Resource Management
Climate change, environmental degradation, depleting natural resources, water scarcity, deforestation, biodiversity loss, and increasing climate variability continue to threaten the fragile Himalayan ecosystem and the well-being of rural communities.
Climate change, environmental degradation, depleting natural resources, water scarcity, deforestation, biodiversity loss, and increasing climate variability continue to threaten the fragile Himalayan ecosystem and the well-being of rural communities. Unsustainable natural resource use, soil erosion, declining water sources, and weak environmental governance further undermine ecosystem health and community resilience. Together, these challenges increase vulnerability to climate-related disasters, reduce the availability of critical natural resources, and limit opportunities for sustainable and environmentally secure development.
Our Approach
MVDA addresses these interconnected challenges by promoting climate resilience, environmental conservation, and sustainable natural resource management. Our interventions focus on strengthening soil and water conservation, restoring forests and degraded landscapes, protecting springs and watersheds, conserving biodiversity, promoting climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction, and encouraging sustainable management of land, water, and forest resources through community participation.
The aim is to address climate-related challenges, environmental degradation, natural resource depletion, and ecosystem vulnerabilities by strengthening conservation practices, improving natural resource management, restoring critical ecosystems, and enhancing community resilience. Through these integrated interventions, MVDA works with rural communities to reduce environmental risks, build climate-resilient ecosystems, and promote sustainable and long-term management of natural resources.
FOCUS AREAS
MVDA addresses these interconnected challenges by promoting climate resilience, environmental conservation, and sustainable natural resource management.
Sustainable Farming
Promoting climate-smart and eco-friendly farming practices.
Market Linkages
Connecting farmers with better markets and buyers.
Organic Agriculture
Encouraging chemical-free and sustainable cultivation.
Seed & Crop Diversity
Supporting resilient crop varieties and seed conservation.
Water Conservation
Improving irrigation efficiency and rainwater harvesting.
Agroecological Practices & Farmer Field Schools
Promoting sustainable farming practices through demonstration, capacity building, and farmer-led learning.
Biodiversity Conservation
Conserving and promoting indigenous, climate-resilient, disease- and pest-resistant crop varieties. Introducing and promoting intercropping systems that combine indigenous crops with other resilient varieties to enhance biodiversity and reduce risks from pests or climate impacts
Green Enterprise Promotion
Supporting eco-friendly enterprises and engage stakeholders to strengthen ecosystem resilience. Facilitating training, input support, and skill development on Vermicompost, biochar, organic manure.
Water Resource Conservation
Protecting and restore drinking water sources, irrigation systems, and groundwater recharge areas.
Climate-Resilient Agriculture
Promoting climate-smart farming technologies, including polyhouses, to improve resilience and productivity.
Community-Based Natural Resource Governance
Strengthening Van Panchayat Committees and build community awareness on climate change and sustainable management of natural resources.
